During the month of Ramadan, when mutual aid and solidarity are experienced most intensely, fitrah, zakat, and holiday donations contribute to supporting the developmental processes of autistic children by enabling their access to intensive and continuous special education starting with early diagnosis.
As part of the “Every Classroom Is TOHUM” project carried out by the TOHUM Autism Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education, two special education classrooms in Hatay's Defne district were renovated with the support of Istanbul Saint-Joseph French High School and made available to students. With the completion of the work at Hatay Defne Mehmet Fehmi Çankaya Primary School and Sevsen Nevzat Şahin Secondary School, the project reached its 225th special education classroom across Turkey.
As part of the “Every Classroom is TOHUM” project carried out by the TOHUM Autism Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education, the special education classroom at Istanbul Ataşehir Necatibey Primary School was renovated with the support of Istanbul Özel Saint-Joseph French High School. The renovated classroom became the 222nd classroom brought to life under the project to date.
Fundación MAPFRE continues to support the TOHUM Autism Foundation's “Every Classroom is a TOHUM” project to promote educational access for children with autism. Within the scope of the project, three special education classrooms were renovated in Istanbul, Aydin, and Hatay with the support of Fundación MAPFRE.
TOHUM The Autism Foundation continues to expand its “Supported Employment Model” launched to enable people with autism to participate equally and sustainably in the workplace. In this regard, an important opportunity is being provided to companies to employ autistic individuals through the grant provided under the IŞKUR’s Disabled and Ex-Prisoner Grant Support Program.
Autism is seen in 1 in 31 children today. While 1 in 2,500 children were diagnosed with autism in 1985, despite this rate reaching today, individuals with autism still have difficulty accessing qualified educational environments, are not accepted in workplaces, and have to struggle with major issues regarding being a part of social life and life as a whole.
The Autism Foundation, which has been operating in Turkey since TOHUM 2003 to integrate autistic children into society as independent and productive individuals, invites the business community to explore the great potential offered by neurodiversity and contribute to the widespread adoption of inclusive employment within the scope of the Neurodiversity Week.
