Why is this book important?

Individuals with autism are 3 to 4 times more vulnerable to risks such as wandering off, traffic accidents, drowning, abuse, and bullying compared to their peers. Therefore, teaching safety skills to individuals with autism is a necessity that directly protects their lives and ensures their safety. The book provides comprehensive guidance for teachers, specialists, and families on how to teach using evidence-based practices in order to enhance the safety of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Who was the book prepared for?

It was prepared for special education teachers, classroom and subject teachers, guidance counselors, parents, and all professionals working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Because clear and accessible language is used, non-experts in the field can also easily benefit from the book.

Which security skills are covered in the book?

Safety skills in different environments and situations are addressed, such as traffic safety, asking for help when lost, protection from disasters like earthquakes, fires, and floods, ensuring safety in digital environments, protection from situations like bullying and abuse, staying away from chemicals such as detergents and dangerous objects like knives and scissors, and complying with safety rules in the work environment. The book explains step-by-step how to teach these skills through evidence-based teaching practices such as social stories, video modeling, and errorless teaching.

We prepared the book "Let's Make a Contract", which we brought to the Turkish language in 2023, to support autistic individuals in improving their daily living and social skills. The book teaches four easy steps to reduce problem behaviors and acquire new skills.

Designed to be easily understood by parents, teachers, and experts, this resource is useful for anyone seeking reliable information and practical recommendations in the field of autism.

In 2020, The Toilet Training Journey, which we brought into Turkish as a qualified resource for children with autism and other developmental disabilities, was written by Judith A. Coucouvanis. We prepared this book—translated by Caner Kuzgun and with translation editing by Nergiz Koçarslan and Hayal Korkmaz—as a systematic and comprehensive bedside guide for the process of toilet training your children.

With this guidebook, we aim to support you in progressing step by step on your potty training journey and conducting the process in an easier, more planned, and effective manner.

In 2018, we published the book Sign Your Name Here, written by Jill C. Dardig and William L. Heward, translated into Turkish by İlksen Dinçer Baş, and edited by Prof. Dr. Bülbin Sucuoğlu.

We prepared this resource for parents, those who want to get a close look at autism, students studying in the field of special education, and researchers. We believe that our book will be a valuable reference for anyone who wants to both gain knowledge in the field of autism and guide scientific studies.

In 2017, we published our book titled Verbal Behavior Approach, which we prepared for teaching language and speech skills to children with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Edited by Prof. Dr. Binyamin Birkan, this book was written by Dr. Mary Lynch Barbera, an expert in the field and also the mother of an autistic child, along with her close friend Tracy Rasmussen. The Turkish translation was done by İlksen Dinçer Baş, who is also the mother of an autistic child.

The book was prepared on the Verbal Behavior Approach, which is accepted as a new and scientific training model in teaching communication skills to children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Serving as a guide, the work offers step-by-step explanations and detailed, easily applicable examples, taking into account the difficulties parents and educators encounter while teaching communication skills.

Published in 2015, our book Teaching Speech Skills to Children with Autism offers practical solutions to the difficulties children and adults with autism face, particularly in initiating and maintaining conversation.

This book is the first guide to explain step-by-step, through predictable and meaningful structures, how to use the milieu teaching technique in teaching speech skills. The technique begins with children repeating recorded words and phrases (or reading written ones aloud) and often continues until they speak as fluently as other children and adults.

Written by Prof. Dr. McClannahan and Krantz, respected researchers and practitioners from the Princeton Child Development Institute and authors of the book Activity Schedules for Children with Autism: Teaching Independent Behavior, this work is a comprehensive guide for parents, teachers, and professionals. The book is supported by case examples, charts, photographs, and step-by-step teaching techniques.

Published in 2010, our book The Use of Activity Schedules in the Education of Children with Autism introduces a revolutionary teaching tool that enables children with autism to perform daily activities independently.

Activity schedules are tools that encourage children to perform specific activities in sequence by guiding them with photographs or words. Children who master these schedules act more independently, manage themselves better, and behave with purpose at home, at school, and during leisure time activities (such as doing puzzles, interacting with classmates, or preparing meals).

Published in 2005, our Autism Sourcebook was written by Psychiatrist Lorna Wing, who is considered one of the world's most important researchers on autism. Wing is known for her work on the causes of autism, brain structure, and the functioning of genes.

In this book, we have offered real-life suggestions for parents who want to recognize autism, understand its symptoms, and learn educational practices. Considered a classic in the field of autism, this work serves as a valuable reference source for parents.
