With the “Every Classroom a Tohum” Project, the 199th Special Education Classroom Has Been Renovated in Turkey!

Tohum Autism Foundation, as part of its “Every Classroom a Tohum” project aimed at supporting access to education for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), has added a new special education classroom to its growing network. With the support of Anadolu Sigorta, the special education classroom at Çakmak Şehit Mahmut Coşkunsu Ortaokulu in Ümraniye, Istanbul, was renovated and enriched with educational materials and technological equipment suited to the needs of children with autism.

The opening ceremony of the newly renovated classroom was held with the participation of representatives from Tohum Autism Foundation, Anadolu Sigorta, and the Ümraniye District Directorate of National Education. This classroom marks the third supported by the Foundation in Ümraniye and the 58th in Istanbul. Children with autism will receive education in this specially designed environment tailored to their individual needs.

The “Every Classroom a Seed” Project Continues to Grow, Renewing 199 Special Education Classrooms Across Türkiye

Since 2009, the “Every Classroom a Tohum” project has been supplying special education classrooms in general education schools, special education practice schools, and special education kindergartens under the Ministry of National Education with individualized special education materials. The project also includes training sessions for teachers, students’ families, all students in the school, and school administrators.

To date, the Foundation has renovated 199 special education classrooms across 42 provinces. Through the project’s “teacher network,” created to ensure ongoing communication and support, educators receive continuous feedback and up-to-date information throughout the year. Following the February 6 earthquakes, 15 additional classrooms in Adana, Adıyaman, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, and Malatya received support as part of the initiative.

The Only Proven Solution for Autism: Intensive and Continuous Special Education

Autism is a neurodevelopmental difference that is congenital and typically recognized in early childhood. Today, it affects 1 in every 36 children. The only known effective method for supporting individuals with autism is an early diagnosis followed by intensive and continuous special education. This process not only supports developmental progress but also plays a critical role in social integration.

Equipping special education classrooms with materials tailored to each child’s needs significantly supports their ability to focus, communicate, develop motor skills, and enhance social interaction. Enriched learning environments make education both easier and more enjoyable, helping children reach their full potential.

Every child’s learning journey is unique. Special education materials allow for a personalized educational experience—adapted to each child’s pace, interests, and needs.
