Fundación MAPFRE Supports the TOHUM Autism Foundation’s “Every Classroom Is a TOHUM” Project in Three Provinces

Within the framework of the project, which is carried out to support the access to education of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), trainings were also provided for student families, teachers, school administration, and peers.

TOHUM General Manager of the Autism Foundation Burçak Karakaya he said in the job evaluation: “Autism is an innate neuro-developmental difference noticed in the first years of life. Every 1 in 31 children is diagnosed with autism. The only known cure for autism begins with early diagnosis intensive and continuous special education. For this reason, strengthening special education classrooms plays a critical role in the development of children with autism. Through the ‘Every Classroom Is a TOHUM’ project, we have renovated hundreds of special education classrooms across Turkey to date. The special education classrooms in Istanbul, Aydın, and Hatay, which were added to the project with the support of Fundación MAPFRE and MAPFRE Insurance, offer not only physical spaces but also a robust educational model that supports children’s development and involves both teachers and families in the process. “Through the ”Every Classroom Is A TOHUM" project, special education classes in public schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, special education practice schools, and special education kindergartens are provided with special education materials tailored to the individual needs of the students. Within the scope of the project, training is provided to teachers, student families, peers, and school administration.
Within the scope of the project, through which 222 classrooms in 45 provinces have been renovated so far, teachers are supported throughout the year via communication and knowledge sharing thanks to the “teacher network” created to support their professional development. Following the February 6 earthquakes, educational environments were improved by supporting 38 special education classrooms in Adana, Adıyaman, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, and Malatya within the scope of the project.
