Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the process of helping individuals acquire new behaviors and replacing unwanted behaviors with appropriate ones by using the learning and behavioral principles of psychology.
ABA includes various application methods and techniques with the strongest scientific foundations for individuals with autism. It is also an approach used in various fields such as special education, general education, clinical psychology, business administration, and psychological counseling.
TOHUM The educational services based on the ABA model, carried out at the Autism Foundation Educational Institutions (TOVEK), were obtained from the Princeton Child Development Institute (PCDI) in the USA. PCDI is among the leading institutions in the United States where children with autism can receive early childhood education through early, intensive, and science-based programs.
The TOVEK Education Model constitutes a pioneering model in the field with its features such as having a richly-contented curriculum that can meet the needs of autistic children of all ages, placing emphasis on the areas of communication and social interaction during the education process, preparing individual education programs for each child in line with the views of the families and reporting development in writing, providing on-the-job supervision to educators, enhancing their professional skills, and evaluating these skills.

Autism-Friendly Practices
To respond to the different types and levels of support needs of individuals, the autism-friendly application:
- the organization of communication methods and physical spaces,
- understanding the effects of social participation and environmental factors on autistic individuals,
- It refers to developing an awareness in this direction.
In short, being autism-friendly means being open to making changes to facilitate the participation of autistic individuals in society. At the same time, it shows that you recognize autistic individuals already put a lot of effort into adapting to their environment, and that you are willing to make the necessary adjustments to include them.
This approach aims to create a more inclusive society by making the lives of autistic individuals easier.
Designing Autism-Friendly Environments
Autism-Friendly Environment refers to environments that meet the sensory, communication, and social-emotional needs of autistic individuals, responding to different levels and types of support requirements.
When designing autism-friendly environments, it should be taken into consideration that the sensory sensitivities of autistic individuals can vary. Autistic individuals may, towards certain stimuli:
- Hypersensitive (for example, loud noises or bright lights can be disturbing),
- They can be hypo-sensitive (for example, they may have low awareness of certain textures or sounds).
Therefore, in environmental planning:
- Solutions to control the noise level,
- The ability to adjust the lighting,
- Attention should be paid to details such as the balanced use of tactile, visual, and auditory stimuli.
It must be remembered that every individual has different sensory needs, and flexible designs that allow for individual adaptation should be preferred.
